Jake Silverman, aka Button Masher — always seen sporting a cap — wears many hats himself: arranger, electronic musician, composer, and educator… and since 2021, a GRAMMY Award winner.
Silverman began experimenting with the fusion of jazz fusion — yes, that too — and chiptune back in 2018. Since then, his genre-defying music has gained popularity among jazz enthusiasts and video game fans around the world.
His big break came in 2021, when he won his first GRAMMY Award for “Best Arrangement, Instrumental or A Cappella” for his take on Meta Knight’s Revenge, created with Charlie Rosen and performed by The 8-Bit Big Band. In 2024, he scored another nomination — this time for “Best Arrangement, Instruments and Vocals” for The Last Surprise.
Button Masher has collaborated with a wide range of artists including Phoenix, The 8-Bit Big Band, Evan Marien, Adam Neely, Sungazer, Andrew Huang, Dj Cutman… and many more.
So if you, too, grew up on the melodies of Koji Kondo, put down the controller… and get ready to headbang in 8-bit.
