ALA.NI

Her songs are astonishing, short, almost bare, barely arranged or orchestrated. Songs that recall the lush musicals of Broadway, yet performed like minimalist, zen chamber folk. Their grace hangs by a thread, held mainly by ALA.NI’s vocal performance.

While her music is mysterious, its origins are clear. ALA.NI is London-born. Her parents are from Grenada. She began her career as a ballet dancer, sang as a backing vocalist alongside Mary J. Blige and Blur, and became a fashion designer before following in the footsteps of her great-uncle Leslie Hutchinson, aka Hutch, an international music-hall star of the 1930s, and writing her first songs.

On her third album Sunshine Music, released in September 2025, ALA.NI shines. Marked by a two-year sojourn in Jamaica, the musician delivers eleven tracks of timeless elegance, imbued with the gentle joy of life in the heart of lush nature.
